Thursday, July 24 – Friday, July 25: In the West, fires in northern and central California continue to burn, releasing pollutants into the atmosphere and leading to locally high ozone and particle levels. These conditions will result in Code Orange: UNHEALTHY for Sensitive Groups Air Quality levels for the Sacramento Valley. In addition, high temperatures and sunny skies across the West will further enhance ozone production. These conditions will Code Orange: UNHEALTHY for Sensitive Groups Air Quality levels throughout parts of southern California and Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition, some parts of the San Joaquin Valley are expected to reach unhealthy Air Quality levels.

In the eastern U.S., a large surface high-pressure system centered over the Ohio River Valley will produce calm winds, limiting pollutant dispersion. In addition, sunny skies and warm temperatures will aid in ozone formation, resulting in Code Yellow: MODERATE Air Quality levels throughout much of the Midwest and parts of the south, with Code Orange: UNHEALTHY for Sensitive Groups Air Quality levels expected near Atlanta, Georgia.
